member to be the best individuals they can be. Building strong families leads to
building strong communities. Yet, many people are only beginning to learn how to

Hold a weekly Family Council. A family council allows family members to discuss
concerns in a safe and loving environment. Family Councils address needs of the
family, of individual members, make decisions about changes to be made in the family
habits and supports and shows love for each other. An agenda helps the meeting to
move smoothly. Rules of proper behavior need to be discussed if this is a new activity
for your family. A good idea is to hold a weekly family council to coordinate schedules,
needs for school, church, community activities. In this meeting, there is no judgement
of people. This is a positive meeting which helps to unify the family.
