I’ve Got a Dream
As I was driving to and fro last week, I noticed a girls’ soccer team practicing. I didn’t think too much about it, just noting their dedication, work, and of course remembering all my friends who have played soccer over the years. I drove merrily along my way. Then, I passed the field of young girls and their parents and coaches again. Something was different this time. Several yards in front of me, a much younger girl, probably early tween age, was riding her bike up the road…but her focus wasn’t ahead; it was on the playing field of girls just a few years her senior, running, kicking, and dribbling that ball of black and white. Something in her face caught my attention. She was intent. There was almost an aura around her. And I had this thought: ”A dream was just born within that little girl.”
Dreams, goals, life plans happen at various times and because of various experiences. Sometimes we step in a body of water and know we were destined to swim. Others of us step on a stage, or playing field, or sit on the back of a horse, and we just know. Sometimes a paintbrush, a computer mouse, a language, a culture, a fact or figure push us in a direction toward a dream of accomplishing something greater than we now know.
And, in the spirit of great music…here’s one of my favorite songs about dreaming:
Rapunzel figured she had waited long enough to live her dream, so she did something about it. She enlisted the help of friends and was able to discover more about herself along her journey–she was strong and capable and amazing–and she had a voice to share.
So, what is your dream? What’s stopping you from living your dream? And what will you do this week to move toward making your dream a reality?
