Power in Numbers

This morning, as I was dragging myself out of bed and onto my knees to pray, I was trying to figure out what I could do not to run alone this morning.  I was already too late to head to the track where I often run in inclement weather, and since the latest storm had blown over in the night, I figured I could make a go of it around the neighborhood at least a little while before I had to start my regularly scheduled morning routine.  As I pondered, even wondering if I dared wake any of my children at such an early hour, I had the thought to wake my oldest and invite him.

Well, I did.  And, surprisingly, he gave up sleep to accompany me on a brief run/walk around the neighborhood.  :)

I laced up my shoes (they felt like old friends, even though I’ve only taken a week to the day off from running due to scheduling, weather, and my last jaunt of 12.58 miles which one of my toes is still paying for…but I digress), stretched with my son, and together we hit the road!

I loved seeing him do well, watching his positive attitude, and teaching him about running all the while.  I loved speaking to him, with only the birds singing and some iPod music as background.  I loved his willingness and kindness to give up sleep to help me fulfill my goal.  I felt so energized (and we didn’t even go that far!!!).

So–I know many of you have empowering experiences with people in your lives–as mothers, sisters, friends, coworkers, daughters, aunts, (the list goes on and on…)–and, though we can feel empowered all by ourselves, feeling empowered with others seems to exponentially double (is that even possible, my math-minded friends?) or triple or something making way more when we invite others to have empowering experiences with us.  Agree?  Let me know…I’d love to hear how you feel empowered in numbers!!!!!
