Stormy Weather

I love stormy days. I know that is different than most people. As a child, my mother huddled us all on the couch with all the windows closed and had every electrical appliance unplugged. My mother says that she is still afraid of thunderstorms.

I was just the opposite. I wanted my children to be cautious but unafraid. So, we would stand on our glassed-in back porch and watch the storm. I still love to watch the rain as it falls on the back porch.

So, today was a perfect day. As I drove home from work, the sky was so dark. Yet, as I looked across the sky there were patches of gray then white clouds with a stream of light shining through. About halfway home, I saw the gray clouds turn to white and clear on one side of the road. In the distance was the light streaming through. It was magnificent.

I thought about how this was like our lives. Some days are stormy. In fact, there are storms that last for days and days and days. Even during those storms are rays of sunshine peeking through the storm clouds.

One of those rays of sunlight for me is a new friend I have met. She is lovely in every sense of the word. Yesterday, I had this overwhelming desire to tell her thank you for her friendship. I waited for a few minutes, then I turned to her and said “Thank you for being my friend.” She turned toward me and said thank you to me. It was a brief moment. But, I have thought about the significance of this experience.

Just a few simple words, expressions of appreciation and love mean a lot. Just telling you about that particular experience has brought back the joyous feelings of yesterday. Take the time to share your love today and empower someone special to you. It will bring a ray of light into both of your lives.
