Baby, It’s Cold Outside
This morning, I was unexpectedly surprised when I walked out of the front door. The wind was biting and I was unprepared. I had on a short sleeve shirt and it was still dark. I shivered! Quickly, I walked to the car. And I thought of the line from the famous Christmas song, “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.”
I loved the song since I heard the Dean Martin rendition as a child. I think the song became popular with my children when it was featured in the movie, Elf. Or maybe, my children love the song because I love the song.
I love how the song portrays the quintessential question of opposites. She says she has to go. He says just stay for a few more minutes. And it goes on and on and on. The repeated phrase is that it is cold outside.
On my way home from work, I heard on the radio that it feels more like Christmas when it is chilly. I wonder if it feels more like Hanukkah when it is cold?
So, I decided to become a little philosophical. At home, we heat up the water for hot chocolate or we heat the apple cider so that when we come in from the cold we are filled with toasty warm feelings. We eat hearty soups and stews and we cuddle around the fire. And isn’t that just what the holidays are about-family, friends, time together sharing love?
Maybe it is cold outside, but it is warm in our home and warm in our heartsWe have warmth to share with those we love. Have a happy holiday season!
