Doors
Several months ago, my husband and I chaperoned a weekend-long activity for youth, ages 14-18. Now, many of you know that I have six little people to watch out for on a given day–but, on these two days, the task my husband & I had “parenting” approximately sixteen young men and young women was a bit daunting.
One of the speakers who talked during the weekend addressed the subject of DOORS. He even illustrated with a door frame, talking about when you open a door (through a choice you make), other doors close. For instance, when I opened the door of our life together by choosing to marry my husband, I closed the door to date other men; when I opened the door to major and minor in certain subjects in college, I closed the door on spending time on a great deal of other subjects.
Everyday, we have opportunities to open and close doors. Two points to ponder:
a) Do we recognize the doors that we open and close through our decisions?
b) Do we teach those around us to recognize the power that is within each of us to choose which doors we open and close?
