Planting Seeds

My little girl came to see me in the other day when I was sorting socks. As she looked me in the eyes, she expressed in words the feelings she had when she, just a few moments before, had shared her rice krispie treat with her younger brother. As we spoke of her happiness, she tired quickly of our dialogue and marched away to find excitement in another part of our house.

I felt deflated. As I reached for another sock detached from its mate, this thought occurred to me: “You are planting seeds.”

Now, I’m no agronomist, but I know that sorting socks has little to do with planting seeds…still, this exchange with my little girl sure did. She will remember that moment, and others like it to come, and the joy will sink deep into her heart as a seed takes root deeply in nutrient-rich soil. I can only hope this joy from sharing and loving and being a friend will grow within her heart & create virtues of faith in her fellowbeings and in herself to share her talents with the world.

So–what about you? What seeds will you plant this week?
