Phone Restriction?!?

I came home from the doctor and was resting. I called my husband to tell him I was home. Then, my daughter took the phone away. “You are on telephone restriction” she announced. I mildly protested. “I have calls to make” was my response. She then told me, “You cannot help anyone else until you get well. You need ‘you time.’”

Reluctantly, I knew she was right. What I didn’t understand was that she was the one who got to choose when I was off telephone restriction. I asked for the phone later in the afternoon and she informed me that until I was well, I was on telephone restriction. Her question to me was: “Do you realize how much time you spend on the telephone every day?”

Actually, I do realize how much time I spend on the phone. Some days, I spend hours talking to friends, family and others who I need to contact. I think that the telephone saves me many more hours of time because I can make contact from my home. Yet, I must admit that I have tried to keep everything moving forward while I have been sick.

As much as I would like to think that I can make a difference by helping others, I must admit that it has been quite a drain to my energy and has possibly prolonged my getting well. So, what shall I do? Stay on phone restriction until I am recovered. Surprisingly, I haven’t missed the phone as much as I thought. I have had the quiet to rest and restore. I might even feel better because I let my body have a rest. Perhaps, my daughter has empowered me by putting me on phone restriction. What do you think?
